Okay. Let’s talk stretch marks.

Okay. Let’s talk stretch marks.

This is the basics of why we get stretch marks.

Stretch marks form in the dermis, or middle layer, when the connective tissue is stretched beyond the limits of its elasticity. This is normally due to rapid expansion or contraction of the skin. As the body grows, the connecting fibers in the dermis slowly stretch to accommodate slow growth. However, rapid growth leads to sudden stretching.

So, I remember having stretch marks from a young age. I am 5’10” and I grew very quickly and I was very active my entire childhood, with the exception of the months I was recovering from a broken collar bone. I remember fairly clearly seeing stretch marks the side of my hip and low back at first and then on my shoulders. When I hit puberty I of course got them on my breasts because I was big for a girl, in my estimation, I got big boobs and big stretch marks. Again, when I gained weight and got pregnant more stretch marks. They just showed up and I had no idea how to, or if I could, combat them.

There has been a ton of research on stretch marks and after consuming a lot of it the reality is if you have skin you will most likely have stretch marks at some point. I now have a 17 year old daughter and she of course is tall like her mother, and has stretch marks like her mother. I have been learning how the organ, skin, works and is affected by the products we put on it.

This is a direct explanation of healthy skin, “Healthy skin is smooth, with no breaks in the surface. It is warm (not hot or red) and neither dry and flaky nor moist and wrinkled. Healthy skin is a mirror of a healthy body.”

World wide there are an array of natural occurring items to use for moisturizing our skin and curing it of issues of dryness, rash, scrapes, cuts and the like. Skin care items come from Avocado Oil, Shea Butter, Kokum Butter, Cocoa Butter, Olive Oil, Almond Oil and yes there is more.

There are about a billion products world wide that tout younger skin. Really most say “Younger LOOKING Skin”. We know for sure if you want younger looking skin the best ideas are don’t smoke, get ample sleep, clean you skin regularly, moisturize, consume alcohol moderately and of course stay out of the sun.

What I know for sure is there is no definitive way to ensure you will never have stretch marks on your skin. They are a natural occurrence, however, you can minimize their affect on your self esteem. Using natural products with the necessary vitamins, minerals and oils necessary to keep your skin healthy and happy and keep your stretch marks looking as beautiful as you are.
